Aqua Babes LLC will not guarantee results in a certain time frame, every child learns differently and at their own pace. What if my child is afraid of the water? To reduce fear to the water, lessons will use a secure hold, repetition, honesty, practice and review techniques, work progressively and have fun! What can I do at home to prepare my children for swim lessons? Begin talking to your child about swimming lessons, perhaps during bath time. Bathe your child in the tub, have your child lay on their backs in shallow bath water to get use to the feeling of water in their ears. Read books about water safety to your child. Some of the books that I recommend are; “Stewie the Duck Learns to Swim” By Kim and Stew Leonard Jr., and “Froggy Learns to Swim” By Jonathon London. Keep in mind that Children copy parental attitudes. What you say, and do will influence your child. What is the parents role during the lessons? During a Parent & Child class or Water Babies class the parent will be in the water with the child during the lesson. Parents of other levels are welcome to observe the class from the patio. There are a few things that you as a parent can do to help lessons progress; Praise your child, Reinforce all skills you want your child to repeat. Reward efforts as well as accomplishments. Be Positive, Ignore or minimize negative reactions such as crying and temper tantrums; Have patience. Children progress at their own rate in swimming readiness, just as in all other areas of development. Occasionally when children throw a fit in class it can be helpful if the parent leaves the yard, showing the child that they won’t get attention unless they are ready to learn. What do you do during Monsoon Season? If there is a storm I will call and notify you if class is canceled approximately one half- hour before class. I will also tell you the make-up day and time that class will be rescheduled, typically a Friday. I do not offer make-up class for students who miss class on personal issues. Please note that classes will be held if it is cloudy and even in light showers, classes are only canceled due to lightning or heavy rain. Is the Pool Heated? No, however I have a thermal solar pool cover that warms the water considerably. When the cover is on the pool water is about 10 degrees higher then the outside air temperature. We are able to use the pool from mid March - October comfortably. |
